Xaverian College’s BTEC Business students recently hosted their highly-anticipated annual fundraising event, bringing together students and staff to support worthy causes. This year’s event was bigger and better than ever, featuring an exciting range of activities, entertainment, and fundraising initiatives.
Each year, the BTEC Business students organise the event as part of their coursework for their Managing an Event unit, applying their business acumen, teamwork, and leadership skills to stage a successful fundraising event. The students collectively raised over £875 that will be donated to Save the Children and the charity’s current appeals for Gaza, ensuring valuable support for those in need.
The attractions included raffles, games, food stalls, and live performances, providing a fun-filled day for visitors. Students have meticulously planned the event using their marketing, finance, and event management skills learned on their course.
Malachy Hurst, former pupil at The Barlow RC High School, said: “We all got to manage our own stalls, with activities like archery, magnetic axe throwing, book sales and mocktails. We had to brainstorm ideas and manage a budget to make sure the plan was well executed and to ensure the event ran smoothly. We learnt a lot of skills that are integral to Business, like problem-solving and customer service.”
Seyi Obafemi, former pupil at Buile Hill Academy, added: “Our charity fundraising event was a lot of fun – there were lots of bubbles, music and laughter, we had face painting and guess how many candies were in a jar, it was jam-packed with different activities to entice staff and students in. It went very well, and everyone worked together to raise money for a worthy cause. I believe this is the largest amount of money that has been raised at this event since the event was introduced, so it shows how much of a success it was. Overall, there was a lot of energy and excitement, and it felt good to be part of something meaningful.”
Yaseen Choudhury, Business Teacher at Xaverian College, said: “Event management is a fast-growing business sector and the demand for employees with the organisational skills to deliver a successful event is increasing. This event not only allows our students to apply what they have learned in the classroom but also make a real difference in people’s lives. As a College, we are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication to social responsibility and the way they apply themselves to hands-on learning experiences. It is always interesting to see the different ways in which they approach this unit and showcase their skills. Well done everyone!”
