³Ò²Ñ°ä°ä¹ó’sÌýHate Crime Awareness ProjectÌýhas been developed to support the community with interactive resources and information on whatÌýaÌýhate crime or hate incidents are and how they can report them to the police or third party reporting centres that suit their location or specific need.ÌýÌý

Starting this week,ÌýGMCCFÌýare launchingÌýaÌýdedicated miniÌýpodcast series, wereÌýGM Chamber charity partners Venture Arts, valued member LGBT Foundation andÌýEuropia, aÌýcharity and community development organisationÌýwhoÌýare committed to supporting and empowering European nationals who have come to live and work in Greater ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥, will come together to discuss their organisations role in ending hate crime in Greater ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥. In addition, we willÌýdiscuss what hate crime is, how and where individuals can access help from the police and/or third-party reporting centresÌýand how it may have affected their community.ÌýListen to themÌý.

Additionally, GMCCFÌýwillÌýtoday be launchingÌý onÌýtheir website, containing an interactive publication of all the relevant hate crime awareness information an individual or organisation may need. This information will be availableÌýas digital information cardsÌýwhich can be used on social media or printed to have on hand in day to day life. There will be a nominal amount of hard copy resource packs made available via free delivery for organisation whoÌýdon’tÌýhave printing facilities. If you would like a free hard copyÌý

This programme has been made possible through ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ City CouncilÌýandÌýÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ Community Safety Partnership, whoÌýmakes funding available annually to support projects across the city that promote awareness of hate crime and how to report it.ÌýMaccÌýadministers this grants programme on behalf of the Council.Ìý
Hate crime is significantly under-reported. Even in difficult times, continued efforts by local groups and organisations are needed to raise awareness of and challenge hate crime in our communities and to help instil confidence in victims by highlighting how and where hate crime incidents can be reported.Ìý

According to the latest data provided by the Greater ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥â€¯Police, between July 2018 and JuneÌý2019, 1,614 hate motivated crimes were recorded over this specific period. These are the latest figures published and are correct as of the 2nd July 2019. Of those 1,614 hate motivated crimes, 1,097 were race motivated. ³Ò²Ñ°ä°ä¹ó’sÌýaimÌýfor this project isÌýto focus on providing resources for the most affected communities by hate crime, howeverÌýour resources are available for all individuals in the community, irrespective of their location in ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥Ìýor wider GM.Ìý
